1. How long has this product been on the market? The overlay systems we use have been used for approximately 30 years. (Top) 2. How does this product adhere to concrete or asphalt? The surface is pressure washed and sometimes scarified to open the pores in the existing surface. A resin glue is used in our systems to bond with the surface itself. (Top) 3. How thick is the finished surface? Surface thickness varies from 1/16" to 1/4" depending on whether the finished product is troweled down or sprayed for the final look. (Top) 4. Is it affected by cold or hot weather extremes? Not really ... we use a rubber-like polymer liquid mixed with Portland cement allowing our systems to provide a tough water-retardent coating which reduces or prevents water penetration, freeze-thaw scaling, and concrete carbonation. Being a "breathable" coating, it releases normally trapped vapors without loosening or blistering. (Top) 5. Can I use a snowblower or snow shovel without harming the surface? Of course, common sense has to be used when shoveling and we recommend a plastic shovel. Keep snowblower blades raised above the surface. Just like any surface, it will scratch if a sharp metal edge is used. (Top) 6. Is it affected by salt or engine oil; i.e., does it stain? Salt has no affect whatsoever on the surface. Most stains will wash off with mild soap and water. (Top) 7. What are the color choices? We have 15 basic colors but if needed, we offer over 1000 different colors. (Top) 8. Why should I use D & M Decorative Coatings instead of replacing my concrete? Overlay systems are about half the price of replacement costs and you end up with a beautiful, decorative coating versus just the ordinary look of concrete. (Top) It's not unusual for people to have the same coating for at least 10 years when resealed approximately every 2 to 3 years. Naturally, as with any surfacing, proper maintenance will extend the life of our systems. (Top) 10. Can it be used indoors, such as in kitchen, bathroom, gameroom? Yes! We have many systems for different needs ... indoor, outdoor, foundations, stucco look, etc. (Top) 11. How is it maintained properly? Maintenance requires pressure washing and resealing every 2-3 years depending on traffic wear. (Top) 12. What about expansion joints - are they covered up? Expansion joints can be refinished and colored but should never be filled in solid. They are there for expansion and contraction of the concrete slabs and are necessary for temperature changes. (Top) 13. What about severely damaged concrete? We have a specially formulated mortar for repairs of badly damaged surfaces and holes or chipped-off corners. (Top) 14. What about existing cracks? Yes, cracks can be filled and repaired prior to our systems being overlaid. (Top) 15. Can it be applied around pools? Yes, it is especially suited for pool decks! The textured finish is slip-retardant and stays cool to the touch making it the perfect coating for around pools. Many hotels are now using our systems to enhance their pool areas and add to their safety. (See Pool Decks for an example) (Top) 16. What surfaces can it be applied to? Any sound surface - concrete, asphalt, wood, tile, etc. It is especially suited to pool decks, driveways, patios, parking garages and similar uses. (Top) |
